How Illinois withholding is handled
Illinois payroll uses IL-W-4 allowances, separately from your federal W-4. The 2026 formula applies 4.95% after the state allowance deduction.
A state withholding example
Weekly state-taxable wages of $300, two line 1 allowances and one line 2 allowance give $8.33 using the formula. A wage-band table can produce a slightly different amount.
Coverage limits
Enter line 1 and line 2 allowances separately: their annual values are $2,925 and $1,000. This calculator uses the exact-wage formula, not the wage-band lookup.
Regular resident W-2 wages only. Use confirmed local/other payroll charges where required. No tax-return, reciprocity, nonresident-alien or special-occupation calculations. Benefit entries must qualify under your employer’s plan.
