How Maine withholding is handled
Maine’s August 2026 revision phases out its payroll standard deduction and adds a high-income surcharge. Paid Leave is calculated separately.
A state withholding example
The official example of $1,000 weekly taxable pay, single and two allowances gives $32 normal withholding. A 0.5% employee Paid Leave share on $1,900 covered wages is $9.50 below the cap.
Coverage limits
This release supports August 31 onward. Confirm public-plan coverage, employee share and prior covered wages. Qualified health reduces the Paid Leave wage base; traditional 401(k) does not.
Regular resident W-2 wages only. Use confirmed local/other payroll charges where required. No tax-return, reciprocity, nonresident-alien or special-occupation calculations. Benefit entries must qualify under your employer’s plan.
