What is time and a half?

Multiply the base hourly rate by 1.5. At $20 per hour, the premium rate is $30. Eight hours at that rate pay $240: $160 of base pay plus $80 of extra premium. Do not add the base pay a second time.

Which hours should I enter?

Only enter hours that are to be paid at this rate. If you worked 48 hours and eight qualify for time and a half, enter eight here. Use the weekly overtime calculator to include both regular and overtime hours in a simple federal-baseline workweek.

Is my hourly rate always the legal regular rate?

No. Bonuses, commissions and multiple rates can change the regular rate used for overtime. This tool performs the multiplication; it does not make that legal determination.

Does a holiday automatically qualify?

Federal overtime rules do not require premium pay solely because work falls on a holiday. State rules or your agreement may differ. The holiday pay calculator compares an entered policy rather than assuming entitlement.
