OVERTIME CALCULATOR / CALIFORNIA

California
overtime calculator.

California adds daily overtime, double time and a seventh-day rule to its weekly overtime requirement.

One workweek, day by day

Day 1 is the first day of your employer’s fixed workweek, not necessarily Monday. Enter actual hours worked, excluding unpaid breaks and paid leave.

Excludes agricultural, residential/live-in, healthcare alternate periods, public safety, collective-agreement exceptions, multiple rates and bonus-adjusted regular rates. Nevada also excludes agreed four-day/10-hour schedules. If a shift crosses a workday boundary, use payroll review.

A workweek example

Five 10-hour days at $20 produce 40 regular hours and 10 hours at 1.5×: $1,100 gross. Those daily overtime hours are not charged again as weekly overtime.

Supported schedule and limits

The seventh-day rule here applies when you work all seven days in the same workweek. Alternative workweeks, wage-order exceptions and shifts crossing workday boundaries are excluded.

Enter actual work hours in order. Do not average hours across weeks or count a paid day off as time worked. This illustration does not authorize a schedule or establish legal eligibility.

Gross pay is not take-home pay

The optional comparison applies a simple federal withholding scenario and your entered additional deductions. Until those deductions are confirmed, it remains partial. An annual qualified overtime deduction does not automatically eliminate payroll withholding or FICA.
