How Massachusetts withholding is handled
Massachusetts payroll uses M-4 allowances, a year-to-date cap on the FICA deduction, and a high-income withholding rate. Employee Paid Leave uses a separate wage base.
A state withholding example
Monthly taxable wages of $5,000, one exemption and $382.50 qualifying FICA give $212.53 state withholding if none of the $2,000 annual deduction has been used. Once exhausted, the same calculation gives $231.65.
Coverage limits
Enter the deduction already used this year, not annual FICA wages. Confirm PFML covered wages, employer retirement contributions, employee share and the annual cap.
Regular resident W-2 wages only. Use confirmed local/other payroll charges where required. No tax-return, reciprocity, nonresident-alien or special-occupation calculations. Benefit entries must qualify under your employer’s plan.
