State treatment of this bonus
Tennessee has no personal income tax. Do not apply an old Hall tax rate to a wage bonus. Federal supplemental-wage and FICA rules still matter.
A worked bonus example
On a $1,000 bonus with the eligible 22% federal method, $220 is federal withholding. If Social Security wages with this employer already reached the annual cap, the bonus Social Security deduction is zero. Medicare and possibly additional Medicare still apply.
When this estimate does not apply
Enter wages before both the regular paycheck and bonus. The calculator accounts for the regular paycheck when finding the remaining FICA wage base.
Regular resident W-2 wages, separately paid cash bonus after the entered regular wages, in the same payroll period only. A bonus paid before those regular wages is not supported. No benefit changes, state exemptions, stock awards, gross-up, or earlier supplemental payment in that period. Federal assumptions are shown in the form. Withholding is a payment toward tax, not the final tax bill.
